Children ‘criminalised’ in care homes

Police are being called to children’s homes thousands of times a year and children are being wrongly ‘criminalised’, according to the Howard League for Penal Reform. The charity suggests there is a systematic problem across England and Wales that leads children’s home staff to resort to calling the police, often for minor incidents that would never come to police attention if they happened in family homes. The findings are published in Criminal Care: Children’s homes and criminalising children.
