New guidance on responding to incidents of sexting

The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) has launched new guidance on sexting in schools and colleges; responding to incidents and safeguarding young children. The guidance replaces Sexting in Schools: What to go and how to handle it from 2016. The advice covers the sharing of sexual imagery by young people, and introduces the phrase ‘youth produced sexual imagery’, and uses that instead of ‘sexting. It is aimed at designated safeguarding leads and senior leadership teams in schools and colleges. It covers responding to disclosures, handling devices and imagery, risk assessing situations, involving other agencies (including escalation to the police), recording incidents, involving parents, and preventative education.
