Northern children ‘too often left behind’

The Children’s Commissioner for England has published a report looking at the issues and experiences of children growing up in the North of England (Yorkshire and the Humber, the North West and the North East). It warns that many of the most disadvantaged children in the North are falling behind their equivalents in the South, are less likely to do well at secondary school, and are more likely to leave education early. The report, Growing up North, says that there is an education gap between the North and the South when it comes to the poorest children, and this gap widens over time.
