Education Policy Institute on the state of the children’s social care system in England

The Education Policy Institute (EPI) has released a report on the state of the children’s social care system in England. It brings together data on children in need, intervention rates, staffing levels and funding provision.

The research found that since 2010 the proportion of acute interventions from social services has risen, with the number of children issued with Child Protection Plans increasing by a quarter between 2010 and 2016. The report says that cuts to early intervention services and rising deprivation may have played a role in this.
